Who Am I? by Echoes of Nyx is a tale about trying to determine human identity through Mujō, a core principle of Buddhism, which teaches that all things are impermanent and subject to change.
‘In the Buddhist analysis of existence, all things arise and perish through dependent origination; they are impermanent, without substance and continually subject to change.’ (Routledge Encyclopedia of Philosophy)
In Who Am I, the nature of existence is shown through the eyes of a woman in a relationship with a man. The woman realizes that the philosophy of Mujō works for her as an abstraction but some of the daily consequences can suck after a lifetime of being raised to believe in a certain level of everlasting permanence.

Lyrics
I worry about why he cares
Whispering his magic through the night
How long until he lets me go
I’m trembling through my evening rites
Bye bye, oooh
Am I just an odd echo
Bye bye ooh oooh
My parent’s past, isn’t that what I wanted
Bye bye, bye
Where’s the mob, that’s supposed to beckon
Bye bye, oooh
Seems so lost, all that they flaunted
Mujō coming in the dead of light
And the inevitable sucking of who’s right
Mujō coming in the dead of light
Trying to accept the nature, of life
I’m building a pyre of plastic air
Toxic wall tryin to repeal his stare
A heart that fights, a voice that cries
These questions burn into my eyes
Bye, bye oooh
Am I the silence or the roar
Bye, bye oooh
Post-human world, isn’t that the score
Mujō coming in the dead of light
And the inevitable sucking of who’s right
Mujō coming in the dead of light
Trying to accept the nature, of life
Is this private? Is this closed
Is cyber the only way he knows
His life feels crushing
From the inside
Mujō
Mujō
Trying to accept the ephemeral nature of my life
I’ll chase the dawn through every storm
My human heart, both frail and warm
The answer lives in all I try
Forever asking, who am I
Forever asking, who am I
Forever asking
Mujō coming in the dead of light
And the inevitable sucking of who’s right
Mujō coming in the dead of light
Trying to accept the ephemeral nature of my life
Mujō coming in the dead of light
And the inevitable sucking of who’s right
Mujō coming in the dead of light
Trying to accept the ephemeral nature of my life
I’ll chase the dawn through every storm
My human heart, both frail and warm
The answer lives in all I try
Forever asking, who am I
